Homesitters Ltd Pet of the Month for April 2024 is Wally the Albino Bennett Wallaby.

Posted on 29 April, 2024

Wally became part of the owners family in January 2024 and lives in their woodland at their home in Sussex, along with a Chocolate Labrador and Norfolk terrier.

The odds of an Albino Wallaby are 1 in 100,000, making Wally a unique sighting and experience for Homesitters Ltd and its homesitters. The rare genetic mutation of the red-necked or Bennett's wallaby is the result of an imbalance of melanin which gives the creatures snow-white fur and pink eyes, claws and nose.

Wallabies are marsupials and are most active at sunrise and sunset, originating from Bruny Island, off Tasmania. They are herbivores, mostly grazing, but also eating tree leaves, known as browse. Their diet consists of predominately grasses, with the rest made up of broad leaved plants, and emerging shoots and root plants.
